An exciting Sustainability Graduate Role at the University of London

The University of London is recruiting for a Sustainability Projects Officer. It is a 1 year fixed term Internship, ideal for a recent graduate looking for their first full-time role in sustainability and will give anyone a fantastic grounding to anyone looking to launch into a sustainability career!

Property and Facilities Management 

The University of London Property & FM team are responsible for the management of an estate the size of 44 Wembley football pitches ranging from Georgian terraces built in the 1700s to 1980s purpose built offices and student residences. Our estate portfolio includes masterpieces from Charles Holden and Sir Denys Lasdun making it a challenge to manage but also give us a sense of pride and responsibility to have the chance to take care of the estate and maintain them the best possible way.

The Sustainability Team have responsibility for promoting sustainability, developing and implementing policies and management systems and coordinating sustainable development across the University.  There are a number of major projects underway including the management of an Environmental Management System, the implementation of carbon and energy savings, improving waste reduction and recycling, investment in energy efficiency, implementing a sustainable food policy as well as a range of other projects to address our significant sustainability impacts.

The Role 

The University of London has an exciting opportunity for someone looking to start their career in sustainability. This one year fixed term will give the successful candidate a broad range of experience in operational and professional sustainability services. The role will involve coordinating the University's environmental management system to the new ISO 14001:2015 standard, engaging with staff, students and contractors on sustainability, waste management and all facets of the University's operations which have an environmental impact.

The Sustainability Projects Officer will assist the Head of Sustainability with the implementation of the University's Corporate Social Responsibility Policy, contributing to the effective management of the University's environmental aspects and impacts and raising awareness about environmental best practice across the University. The post holder will act as a champion for sustainable practice across the university, assisting in driving cultural and behavioural change throughout the organisation. This will involve promoting sustainability, assisting with the implementation of polices and management. 

The successful candidate will have experience in managing campaigns and awareness activities, well-developed interpersonal and leadership skills and be committed to sustainability and the environment. They will have knowledge of a wide range of environmental issues including: energy, waste, transport, food and procurement/supply chains.
