The Role

The Institute of Historical Research is seeking a Librarian to oversee the operations and development of the Wohl Library, a collection of over 180,000 volumes (the majority on open access) covering British, European and colonial history, housed in the IHR’s premises in Senate House. The Library also works closely with the IHR Digital team on the development of digital history resources. This post would suit a librarian with a strong academic record in history or an academic historian with experience of managing library operations. The Librarian will be expected to make an academic contribution to the work of the Institute, to engage in outreach and engagement activities, and to participate in fund-raising to support the maintenance and further development of collections.

This is a high-profile role that requires significant experience of working in an academic or research library and an academic background in History. The postholder would be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, experience of managing a budget, familiarity with the development of digital resources and a proactive approach to service innovation..
