Who are we looking for?
The Human Resources department of the University of London is seeking a passionate Payroll Administrator on a 12 months fixed-term contract basis, reporting to the Deputy Payroll Manager. You will be responsible for administration of payrolls within 5 PAYE Schemes, all monthly paid.
The Payroll Administrator will form part of the Human Resources department. The post holder will play key role in making sure payroll input is completed to a high standard of accuracy, liaising with internal departments on the content of payroll submission or other related queries.
The ideal candidate will be educated to degree level, or equivalent by experience or ability. To succeed in this role, you must have substantial experience in a similar role, including extensive experience of calculating pay and statutory deductions, alongside a sound knowledge of the latest payroll legislation. You must either hold or be studying for the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals Foundation Degree and should be able to undertake manual payroll calculations. The candidate will be a confident and friendly communicator with the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with colleagues and others at all levels. Excellent organisational skills are essential. Some knowledge of the University’s data management system, Business World would be an advantage.

The HR Department is responsible for Payroll, Pensions, Staff Development, Recruitment, Staffing policy and for advising managers and staff on a range of employment matters.
The Human Resources Department comprises the following sections:
- The Director's Office
- The HR Office, which handles all HR enquiries, maintains personal staff records and undertakes the day to day administration of employment, including actioning items for Payroll processing. The office is also the centre of recruitment activity.
- The Payroll Office is responsible for ensuring all payments are made to staff accurately and on time. Payroll has responsibility for the central University staff including the Health Education England, IR35 Payroll other external organisations as well as review of the reward and benefits offering
- The Pensions Office provides a comprehensive service on all aspects of superannuation schemes.
- The Organisational and Staff Development Office organises staff development for all members of staff from the University and the Central Academic Bodies and Activities.
