The Role

The key focus of the Sustainability Communications and Engagement Officer role is to contribute to raising awareness of the University’s sustainability aspects and impacts internally and externally through promoting and implementing measurable sustainable outcomes.

The post holder will act as a champion for sustainable practice across the University. They will drive cultural and behavioural change throughout the organisation by engaging with a wide range of stakeholders and highlighting what can be done individually, collectively and structurally at the University to effect environmentally positive outcomes.

The successful candidate will lead on communication and engagement projects, promoting sustainability, assisting with the implementation of policies and management systems, promoting and coordinating sustainability activities across the University.

The University of London Sustainability Team have responsibility for implementing and promoting balanced and coordinated sustainable action (environmental, social and economic) across the institution through developing and implementing sustainability policies, projects, and management and reporting systems.  There are several major projects underway including implementing our 2021-2025 sustainability strategy, the maintenance of our Environmental Management System, upgrading our district heating network, buildings retrofit projects, improving biodiversity and reducing waste across the estate, as well as a range of other projects to address our significant sustainability impacts.

The Sustainable Communications and Engagement Officer will play a central role in delivery of the University’s sustainability aspirations through delivery of multi-channel communications for a portfolio of projects and engagement opportunities with the University’s staff, students and key stakeholders.  This role offers an exciting opportunity to gain experience and knowledge across a broad range of sustainability impact areas and to get involved in the practical implementation of projects.

The role would suit someone who is passionate about sustainability, has excellent interpersonal, project and time management skills, experience developing engaging content and able to work some evenings and weekends.
