Job Description
The University of London
The University of London is one of the largest and most diverse higher education institutions in the world. With a mission to transform lives through knowledge, it delivers high quality academic programmes, brings benefits to society through its research in the humanities and social sciences, and leverages intellectual connections through public engagement.
It is made up of federation of 17 member institutions of outstanding reputation, plus a number of highly acclaimed central academic bodies and activities. The University of London federation has over 120,000 students in London, and a further 50,000 studying across 190 countries for a University of London degree.
The University of London connects its Member Institutions in the federation through a collective mission which centres on opening access to knowledge, education and training, addressing the inequalities in higher education and championing inclusive practices and behaviours.
From its inception in 1836, the University of London was committed to diversity: it had the UK’s first-ever female Vice Chancellor and pioneered women’s access to HE. Broadening access was the driving principle behind the University’s leadership of the post-war expansion of the UK’s HE system, underpinning the delivery of degrees at then new universities such as Exeter, Liverpool and Nottingham and co-ordinating the University of London Federation connecting the capital’s premier HE institutions. The University of London’s distance education programme is over 150 years old and we are UK’s leading provider of distance learning overseas, providing cutting-edge programmes to those who can benefit most from education.
