Job Description

The University of London is a federation of 17 Member Institutions based in London. It offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes to over 51,000 students around the world. Our 2020–2025 Strategy ‘Transforming Education… Creating Futures’ is an ambitious academic vision for a digital age. Through it we want to leverage our collective power as a federation and cement our position as an anchor institution in London, supporting the communities around us.

Our aim is to enrich our academic work in the pursuit of excellence in education, research and knowledge exchange through collaboration with our Member Institutions. We do this by developing academic programmes, networks and partnerships that further our federation’s goals across London, the UK and internationally.

The University owns and manages a large and prestigious estate which includes academic and service buildings, student halls of residence, gardens, and private residences. The estate hosts several activities that are fundamental to our being a University, notably space for teaching and research, libraries, student accommodation and conference facilities.

This is a critical role, which has been designed to drive the ongoing development and implementation of the University’s Estates Strategy, ensuring that our Estate is valued as a key enabler of our core activities and generates the financial returns required to facilitate those activities.

You will be a trusted advisor on all property matters, providing advice and guidance to senior leaders and relevant Committees on balancing the needs of the University and Member Institutions.

You will establish and maintain key working relationships with senior staff from across the University, and with senior officers from across the Federation; engaging and influencing key stakeholders to promote and champion the greater use of Senate House as an academic hub and the wider Bloomsbury estate as a desirable destination for students, staff and visitors.

Applications are welcomed from candidates with demonstrable experience in a similar role, having responsibility for a complex property portfolio, technical and specialist staff, and significant budgets (capital and revenue).

The successful candidate will be a strong and visible leader possess with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to both foster excellent performance amongst colleagues and influence senior colleagues in a positive manner.
