The School of Advanced Study
The University of London’s School of Advanced Study is a unique institution in UK higher education. Comprising a set of postgraduate institutes and a variety of central academic initiatives, it is located within the Bloomsbury precinct of the University in the physical and intellectual heart of London. It is the UK’s national and international centre for the support, promotion and facilitation of research in the humanities, broadly defined. It does this in collaboration with other organisations, notably the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), the British Academy (BA), learned societies and government agencies.
The Warburg Institute
Founded in Hamburg at the beginning of the 20th century, and brought to London when the Nazis came to power in 1933, the Warburg Institute became part of the University of London in 1944 and part of the School of Advanced Study in 1994. It is one of the world’s leading centres for the studying the interaction of ideas, images and society. It is dedicated to the survival and transmission of culture across time and space, with a special emphasis on the afterlife of antiquity. Its open-stack Library is (according to the Open Education Database) one of the ‘20 Libraries that Changed the World.’ Along with the Photo Collection and Archive, it serves as an engine for interdisciplinary research, postgraduate teaching and a prestigious events and publication programme
This post combines high-level personal assistance to the Director of the Warburg (helping him to manage his calendar and communications) with administrative support to the Institute Manager (helping her to run the Institute’s prestigious fellowship programme and other Institute activities including committee servicing and acting as the first point of contact for enquiries).
To succeed in this role you will need demonstrable experience of high profile PA responsibilities and administration. Excellent interpersonal skills and organisational skills are also essential to this role. In addition to this you will need the ability to manage multiple tasks often to tight deadlines, and prioritise workload and respond flexibly to changing circumstances. The successful candidate must be numerate and literate to the high standards required by the activities of the role. Degree level qualification or equivalent in experience is highly desirable.
